Professional Experience
Directed media campaigns for the federal office of a national federation of environmental organizations. Worked with field and program staff to develop messages and strategies for outreach to news media at the state and national level. Pitched stories to television, newspapers, and radio reporters, on-line journalists, and others. Organized DC press conferences and press briefings, including development of messages, press materials, visuals and press lists.
Developed and oversaw advocacy communications campaigns on multiple issues and in multiple forums: traditional news media, online and social media, and our own print and web publications. Recruited and managed a team of staff and contractors that included media associates, web editors, strategists, technicians, graphic designers, and a researcher/senior editor.
Provided program support for regional network advocating transportation investments, land use policies, and neighborhood designs that enhance existing communities and protect the environment. Projects included web and newsletter content, administrative system implementation, financial management, legal filings, and special event coordination.
Secured television, print, and radio coverage on dozens of public interest issues from bank fees and consumer rip-offs to renewable energy and toxic pollution. Organized near-monthly press conferences on issues from environmental policy to product safety. Drafted and edited press releases, fact sheets, pitch memos and background materials. Developed and maintained online newsroom.
Responsible for office management, computer troubleshooting, equipment and computer maintenance, conference and event organizing, intern recruitment, and financial management, taxes, and payroll for three corporations. Organized housing, social events, and logistics for up to 150 participants of semi-annual national meetings. Assisted in urgent campaign organizing leading up to key votes and decisions. Solicited thousands of dollars of in-kind donations for U.S. PIRG.
