I had a discussion about that with Mac. My position being that only someone who doesn't have to wear corrective lenses every waking hour could think that.
Sunday morning, I awoke early at the in-laws to do the long run I'd missed the day before. Apparently, I was a bit out of it because I put my contact lenses into the wrong eyes. That really doesn't work.
A mile into my run, my right lens was still making me crazy. I rubbed my eye and out it came. I may have put it in inside out but I'll never know for sure because before I could put it back in, a gust of wind caught it and blew it away.
I ran 15 miles and drove back to my in-laws house with one contact lens.
Bug has come along on our summer family visiting tour.
Isn't she cute. She travels rather well but not particularly lightly.
In addition to a cage, she has a basket of food and toys. Doubtless she over packed, but she's young yet.
It was quite hot which means that Mac and I had to take turns visiting rest-stops. A few minutes in a closed up car on a mid-July afternoon wouldn't be particularly good for little Miss. Bugness. Other than that, the drive was uneventful.
So it seems that Matt wrote about Pamela and I wrote to Pamela about Julie. Pamela wrote about both Julie and Matt and I'm completing the circle. (There's even a poll.)
Any one else want in on this?
We subscribe to a CSA, a community-supported agriculture project. Ours Bull Run Farm originally because Leigh delivers in front of the PIRG office. Every week, he brings vegetables. You basically get whatever is in season and Leigh grows a wide variety of stuff. Early in the season, there's greens and herbs and, from July to October, there's lots of squash and peppers. Peppers are easy, but Mac hates squash. I like squash ok and Bug's really into it (especially slivered and offered by hand). How much do you think she can eat?
A mere 125 pages into the new Harry Potter book which arrived from Amazon.com around noon yesterday, we decided we really needed to go food shopping. We are hosting a bbq today and it's difficult to buy beer in the district on Sunday. Sigh.
While standing in the checkout line, a Safeway supervisor came up behind us with a pre-teen and her mom in tow. "Hey, [I've forgotten the name of the clerk], do you have any more of those Harry Potter books at your register?" "Yup," she says, and passes one over our head to the supervisor who passes it to the girl who is now beaming.
Wow. Even Safeway felt the need to carry the new Harry Potter book.
I think I enjoyed the Ebo movies more than Bug. Ebo is a cockatiel who's favorite phrases include "Good, Ebo", "Ebo", and "Boo". I especially enjoyed the "Ebo Ebo Ebo" song and "Ebo's interview as a presidential candidate". Bug felt the need to lunge at the screen a few times.

Twelve minutes into what will be more than a two and a half hour run with the sun barely over the capitol, we had to wonder . . . "what are we doing up?" There aren't even any tourists on the mall at this hour. There are no breakfast places nearby and the museums won't open for nearly 3.5 hours. |
Someone in our group thought to bring trivial pursuit cards and passed them around. Cute idea and I learned useless trivia about tennis, Boy George, and the New York Times among others.

What a difference 8° makes! The last three miles were a struggle as we left the shelter of the trees and dodged the tourists just starting out on the mall for the day. |

I ran on the mall over lunch today. Oh, my was it hot and sticky. I was forced to stop at a snack stand to snag napkins to wipe the sweat out of my eyes. All that remains of the 4th of July extravaganza on the mall is the snow fencing and an empty Folk Life Festival pavilions. It's been left to your run-of-the-mill tourist and jogger. I'd missed a whole week of running due to a cold that Mac brought home. Honestly, I've been overdoing it and think I was a bit run down. I don't know if today's run was hard because of the heat or the training interruption. Either way, I took it slow. We have a 14 mile run scheduled Saturday - just past half way! |
